THE BANDS OF RANDOLPH
The Band Program at Randolph begins in the 5th grade at Fernbrook, Ironia, Shongum and Center Grove. Students begin their band experience by choosing to play flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, trumpet, french horn, baritone or percussion. The band staff works to create and maintain a balanced instrumentation from the very beginning. Communication and collaboration with all parents is crucial to the success of each young musician.
The beginning band experience consists of weekly lessons that rotate throughout the students' schedule and a weekly sectional. One before-school rehearsal per week will allow the students to work with their director to prepare for a Holiday and Spring Concert.
The Middle School Band Program consist of two 6th Grade Concert Bands, 7th Grade Concert Band and 8th Grade Concert Band. In addition, students who play trumpet, trombone, saxophone or a rhtyhm section instruments such as guitar, bass or drum set, can elect to audition for the 7th/8th Grade RMS Jazz Ensemble. Percussion students at RMS are encouraged to perform in the RMS Percussion Ensemble as well. The large group ensemble meets before school once a week during zero period. A student's lesson and sectional will be pulled during the school day during either their wellness or cycle period. Other instruments such as tuba, bassoon, baritone saxophone, oboe and bass clarinet can be explored by members of the band program during the middle school years.
The Bands of Randolph High School include the Concert Band, Symphonic Winds, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble I, Jazz Ensemble II, Percussion Ensemble and the Marching Rams.
